Foster's even odder Irish oddities
Allen Foster
Allen Foster is back! And things are odder than ever! An even more addictive and more fascinating book packed with far odder curious statistics, bewildering facts and quirky humour – the bemusing, confusing, amusing second book by Ireland’s quirkiest collector of the rare and strange – Allen Foster. Did you know? Dublin doctor Jonathan Osborne (1794-1864), had himself buried in an upright coffin because ‘at the resurrection he would not like anyone to have an advantage over him. He had arthritic hips’ In 1773 a County Carlow labourer discovered a frog with two heads and eight feet while he was cutting a field of wheat. The nickname ‘Nosey Parker’ owes its origin to a Co. Laois man. Edward Parker, from Cappagh was a sergeant in the British Army in the nineteenth century. Parker had a large fatty tumour right on the point of his nose, which extended over a quarter of an inch below the point of his chin. In view of his affliction soldiers of that period gave that nickname and it stuck to him till the day of his death in 1896. źródło opisu: okładka źródło okładki: zdjęcie autorskie
